Vitamin therapy in Bucharest — when, by which route and with which tests

English translation of content medically reviewed in Romanian by Dr. Claudiu Ruscu, intensive care physician (anaesthesia & intensive care)· Romanian text reviewed 20 September 2026

Vitamin therapy is the administration of vitamins with an indication, dose and route set by a doctor: by mouth, by intramuscular injection or as an IV drip. At Synerva we start with the question of whether you need it and continue, where appropriate, with the tests that confirm it.

Vitamin therapy does not mean as many vitamins as possible, by as many routes as possible. It means first finding out whether you are missing something — and only then choosing how to make up for it.

Medically assessed protocol

Medical assessment before administration (included)
Under the supervision of an intensive care physician (anaesthesia & intensive care)
A personalised protocol, not a one-size-fits-all recipe
Equipped for emergencies

Benefits

The route chosen medically

Oral, intramuscular or intravenous — after an assessment, not according to a passing preference.

Tests where they matter

For injectable vitamin D and B12, the blood level guides the dose and how often it is given.

And the answer “you don't need it”

If your level is normal, a high dose adds no benefit. We tell you so directly.

Doses set by the doctor

The dose and repeat interval are chosen individually, not from a recipe that applies to everyone.

Given by medical staff

Injections and drips with sterile materials, under the supervision of an intensive care physician.

Limits stated openly

For each vitamin, we separate what is documented from what is merely plausible.

IV drip or oral supplements — when each one fits

It is not “better or worse” — they have different roles. Here is the difference, stated fairly.

An IV drip does not replace a balanced lifestyle or the treatment recommended by your doctor.

What vitamin therapy means

Vitamin therapy is the use of vitamins as a medical intervention: to prevent or correct a deficiency, with an indication, a dose, a route and, sometimes, monitoring set by a doctor. It differs from diet, which covers daily intake, and from supplements taken on your own initiative, where no one checks whether they were needed.

In everyday language, “vitamin therapy” has come to mean mainly vitamin IV drips. We use the term in its broad sense, because the first question is not “which drip should I choose” but “am I missing something, and what is the right route”. If you are already past that question and are looking for the intravenous formulas, you will find them on the vitamin IV drips page.

Vitamin therapy at the Synerva clinic in Bucharest

Oral, injection or IV drip — three routes, three roles

There is no route that is “better” in general. There is the right route for a particular vitamin, a particular dose and a particular person.

By mouth

For most people with normal digestive absorption, tablets or drops are enough to correct and maintain the level, at low cost. It takes longer, however, and some situations — stomach or bowel surgery, digestive conditions, certain long-term treatments — can reduce absorption, especially of vitamin B12.

Intramuscular injection

A few minutes, and a dose that no longer depends on digestion. We use it for the vitamin B12 injection, when absorption is the problem, and for high-dose vitamin D injection, which is a prescription medicine, not a supplement.

Intravenous drip

A slow drip, usually 30–60 minutes. It makes sense for doses the oral route cannot reach, such as high-dose vitamin C, and for combinations such as the vitamin B complex with fluids. All intravenous protocols, not just the vitamin ones, are on the intravenous therapy page.

When a deficiency has to be confirmed by blood tests

The working rule: the higher the dose and the more easily the vitamin builds up in the body, the more the test beforehand matters.

Vitamin D

The step beforehand is the 25-OH vitamin D test. Vitamin D is fat-soluble and is stored, so any excess is not cleared quickly, and too much can raise blood calcium. If your level is normal, a high dose brings no extra benefit.

Vitamin B12

The serum level is interpreted together with the full blood count and the clinical context. Why it is low also matters: insufficient intake and an absorption disorder are different situations, and the injection corrects intake without explaining a cause that has to be investigated separately.

Vitamin C and B complex as a drip

Blood tests are not required in every case; the doctor decides at the assessment. For high-dose vitamin C, G6PD deficiency, kidney conditions and a history of kidney stones matter.

Iron — not a vitamin, but often confused with one

Tiredness put down to a “lack of vitamins” is sometimes iron deficiency. An iron infusion is given only on the basis of blood tests confirming the deficiency, and only at the clinic.

Which vitamins we give and how

Intravenously: high-dose vitamin C, the vitamin B complex, the formula that combines them with minerals, and biotin. Intramuscularly: vitamin B12, vitamin D in two strengths, and biotin combined with vitamin B5. The price and duration of each are in the table above, taken from the clinic's catalogue.

High doses of vitamin D are not repeated on request: the interval is set by the doctor, based on the level in your tests. For biotin for hair there is a practical precaution: it can change the results of some blood tests done in the following three days, so let the laboratory know.

The limits of the evidence

What is well documented: vitamins correct deficiencies. A person with confirmed low B12 or vitamin D has a clear reason for administration, and the effect is followed up in blood tests.

What is less certain: in people without a deficiency, the evidence that extra vitamins bring energy, immunity or longevity beyond a balanced diet is limited, and “more” does not mean “better”. Studies of high-dose intravenous vitamin C were done mainly in hospital, in patients with severe illness, with mixed results — they cannot be transferred to a wellness drip. Feeling good after a session can also come from hydration, the break and expectations.

That is why wellness vitamin drips are not a treatment and do not replace a specialist consultation or the treatment recommended by your doctor.

Vitamin therapy at Synerva, in Bucharest

The clinic is at Strada Ciprian Porumbescu nr. 5, Sector 1, open daily from 09 to 20. Vitamin injections and drips can also be given at home, in Bucharest and Ilfov, after the same assessment. If you have recent test results, bring them: they shorten the path from the question to a correct recommendation.

Frequently asked questions

How much does vitamin therapy cost at Synerva?

It depends on the vitamin and the route of administration. Intramuscular injections start from 150 RON. Intravenous vitamin drips start from 300 RON. The medical assessment is included; laboratory tests, if you don't have them, are not included. For home visits a travel fee is added: 100 RON in Bucharest (free from 600 RON) and 150 RON in Ilfov (free from 900 RON).

What does vitamin therapy mean?

The administration of vitamins as a medical intervention, to prevent or correct a deficiency, with the dose and route — oral, intramuscular or intravenous — set by a doctor. In everyday language the term often refers to vitamin IV drips, but it covers all three routes.

Is a vitamin injection or drip more effective than tablets?

Not in general. With normal digestive absorption, the oral route corrects most deficiencies. An injection or drip makes sense when absorption is impaired, when the dose needed cannot be reached by mouth, or when the doctor considers supervised administration appropriate.

Which blood tests are needed beforehand?

For injectable vitamin D, the 25-OH vitamin D test. For vitamin B12, the serum level together with the full blood count. For vitamin C or B complex drips, the doctor decides at the assessment, depending on your history and, for high-dose vitamin C, on kidney function.

Can I have vitamin therapy if I don't have a deficiency?

A wellness vitamin drip can be given after an assessment, on the understanding that the benefit in people without a deficiency has not been demonstrated. We do not give high doses of injectable vitamin D or B12 without an indication.

Can high doses of vitamins be dangerous?

Yes, in certain situations. Vitamin D builds up, and too much can raise blood calcium. High-dose vitamin C is not given in G6PD deficiency and calls for caution in kidney conditions. Biotin can change some blood test results. That is why the assessment is not a formality.

What is the difference between vitamin therapy and vitamin IV drips?

Vitamin IV drips are one of the routes of vitamin therapy. Vitamin therapy also includes the oral route and intramuscular injections, and the choice between them is made after establishing whether anything is missing, and what.

Can it be done at home?

Yes, vitamin injections and drips can be given at home in Bucharest and Ilfov, after the same assessment as at the clinic, with the published travel fee.
