NAD supplements from the pharmacy or an IV drip — what to know first

The most useful thing to know before comparing: supplements sold as "NAD+" do not, as a rule, contain NAD+. They contain precursors — Therapium NAD+ has NMN and PQQ, Herboxa NAD+ has nicotinamide riboside, ubiquinol, resveratrol and BioPerine. The name on the box describes what the product aims to increase, not what is inside it.

The reason is simple: NAD+ is a large molecule, unstable in the digestive tract, which would not get through intact. That is where the logic of intravenous administration comes from — it bypasses the problem. For a daily, inexpensive background intake, a supplement with precursors can be a reasonable option; we don't sell supplements, so we have nothing to gain by saying so.

We have written about this at length, with the compositions declared by the manufacturers and their regulatory status in the EU, in NAD supplements or an IV drip. What the molecule is and where the evidence stops: NAD+ — what it is and what it does. The difference from NADH, and the contraindications: NADH and NAD+. Prices and what determines them: injectable NAD — prices in Romania.

Intravenous NAD+ drip at the Synerva clinic in Bucharest

What a NAD+ IV drip is

NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme naturally present in every cell, with a key role in energy metabolism. A NAD+ IV drip gives this coenzyme intravenously, slowly, straight into the bloodstream. Intravenous administration bypasses digestion; whether this translates into higher NAD+ levels inside cells is still being studied (more on this below).

At Synerva, in Bucharest, the NAD+ IV drip is chosen for cellular energy metabolism, mental clarity and general wellbeing — as part of a lifestyle geared towards longevity. The dose and how often it is given are set together with the doctor, during the assessment.

"Injectable NAD", "NAD for infusion" or a NAD+ IV drip — what it actually means

You may have searched for "injectable NAD" or "NAD for infusion" and be wondering whether it is something other than an IV drip. In short: they refer to the same route of administration — intravenous. At Synerva, in Bucharest, NAD+ is not given as a quick injection but as a slow intravenous drip (90–180 minutes), the "infusion" form in which the coenzyme reaches the bloodstream gradually.

The reason is medical: given too quickly, NAD+ can cause passing discomfort (chest pressure, nausea, flushing). A slow rate, with monitoring, gives better tolerance and comfort. So whether you searched for "injectable NAD", "NAD for infusion" or "intravenous NAD", with us it is the same procedure: a NAD+ IV drip given by medical staff, after a prior assessment.

How a session works

1. The assessment

A doctor discusses your goal, your medical history and your tolerance before administration. The assessment is included.

2. Slow administration

NAD+ is deliberately given slowly — between 90 and 180 minutes — for comfort and the best tolerance. You can relax, read or work.

3. After the session

Many people report feeling clearer and more refreshed. NAD+ is often chosen as a course, as part of a longevity routine.

Why NAD+ declines with age

The level of NAD+ in the body does not stay constant: studies suggest it declines gradually with age — some estimates indicate considerably lower levels around the age of 50 than at 20. NAD+ takes part in the energy metabolism of the mitochondria, in DNA repair and in the activity of sirtuins, proteins associated with cellular ageing.

That is exactly why NAD+ has become a central topic in the discussion about longevity. Important to remember: an IV drip does not "stop ageing" — it is, at most, one piece of a bigger picture, alongside sleep, exercise and diet.

Is NAD+ worth it, or just a trend? What the research says

We are a clinic, not a shop selling promises — so we answer honestly. NAD+ is an active field of research, not an "elixir of youth" with guaranteed effects. You will also find sceptical voices online: some researchers argue that intravenous NAD+ does not enter cells directly and that precursors (NR, NMN) might be an alternative route. It is a real debate, and we don't hide it.

What we can say responsibly: slow intravenous administration provides high bioavailability and better tolerance than a fast drip, which is why with us it takes 90–180 minutes. We position NAD+ as part of a lifestyle geared towards longevity — not as a treatment for a disease. We do not promise to cure any condition (Alzheimer's, addictions and so on) — such claims are not supported and we do not make them. If NAD+ doesn't make sense for your goal, we tell you directly at the assessment.

Safety and contraindications

The NAD+ IV drip is given only by medical staff, with monitoring, after an assessment. Precisely because it is a medical procedure, we don't do it "for anyone, at any time". Certain situations call for caution or may be a contraindication — pregnancy and breastfeeding, some heart or kidney conditions, and active cancer, which are assessed individually, at the doctor's discretion.

Given too quickly, NAD+ can cause passing discomfort (chest pressure, nausea, flushing) — which is exactly why the slow rate is deliberate. The medical assessment is not a formality: it establishes whether the protocol suits you and at what dose. Supervision is provided by an intensive care physician, the specialty that, in hospital, deals with intravenous administration every day.

NAD+ 100 mg vs 250 mg — price and how to choose the dose

The price of a NAD+ IV drip in Bucharest starts at 600 RON. At Synerva the NAD+ IV drip is available in two doses, set together with the doctor: NAD+ 100 mg (600 RON) and NAD+ 250 mg (1250 RON). The 100 mg dose is a suitable starting point for a first experience or for maintenance sessions; the 250 mg dose provides a more concentrated intake, often chosen in protocols focused on cellular energy metabolism and longevity.

For a long-term plan there is also the NAD+ Longevity course (4290 RON), a series of sessions. The recommendation on dose and frequency is made after the medical assessment — see also the details of each option in the protocols section.

What it contains and who it suits

The protocols available are NAD+ 100 mg, a good starting point, and NAD+ 250 mg, the premium longevity option. Because results with NAD+ are built over a series, not from a single session, many people choose the NAD+ Longevity course — four NAD+ 250 mg drips as a package (4290 RON compared with 5000 RON separately). The NAD+ IV drip suits people who want long-term support for their cellular energy metabolism, mental clarity and general wellbeing.

The NAD+ IV drip is not intended to treat a condition and does not replace a specialist medical consultation. It is given only by medical staff, with monitoring, after an assessment.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a NAD+ IV drip cost in Bucharest?

From 600 RON for NAD+ 100 mg at Synerva. The prices are shown above, and the medical assessment is included.

Can I have the IV drip if my veins are hard to find?

Most of the time, yes — tell us from the start, when you book. It helps a lot to drink water in the hours before and not to arrive cold: in a hydrated, warm body the veins are easier to see and feel. The cannula is usually placed on the forearm or the back of the hand, by medical staff used to finding veins. If it cannot be placed comfortably and safely, we do not keep trying with repeated needle sticks, and we discuss the right option with you.

What is NAD+?

It is a coenzyme naturally present in every cell, with a key role in energy metabolism. It is given intravenously, slowly, after a medical assessment.

How long does a NAD+ IV drip take?

Between 90 and 180 minutes, depending on the dose. It is deliberately given slowly, for the best tolerance and comfort.

How many NAD+ sessions are needed, and how often?

It depends on your goal. Because the effects build up over a series, many people choose a course of 4 sessions (the NAD+ Longevity course), followed by maintenance sessions. The exact schedule is set by the doctor at the assessment.

What will I feel during and after a NAD+ IV drip?

Slow administration is usually well tolerated. If the rate were too fast, passing sensations could occur (chest pressure, nausea, flushing) — which is why we slow it down. After the session, many people report feeling clearer and more refreshed.

Is NAD+ worth it, or is it just marketing?

NAD+ is a field still being researched, not a miracle remedy. We position it honestly, as part of a longevity routine, given slowly after an assessment — we do not promise to cure diseases. If it doesn't make sense for you, we tell you directly.

Is there "injectable NAD", or is it only given as a drip?

The terms "injectable NAD" and "NAD for infusion" refer to the same intravenous route. At Synerva, NAD+ is given as a slow drip (90–180 min), not as a quick injection — for tolerance and comfort, with medical monitoring, after an assessment.

Can the NAD+ IV drip be done at home?

Yes, a nurse can come to your home in Bucharest and Ilfov, after the same assessment. At home the drip is just as slow as at the clinic — 90–180 minutes — and if chest pressure, nausea or flushing occur, the rate is reduced. Plan your 2–3 hours without rushing.

NAD+ 100 mg or 250 mg — which should I choose?

NAD+ 100 mg (600 RON) is a suitable starting point for a first experience or for maintenance; NAD+ 250 mg (1250 RON) provides a more concentrated intake, often chosen in protocols focused on cellular energy metabolism and longevity. The right dose is set with the doctor at the assessment.

Limitation: Only 8 healthy men aged 30–55 (3 in the control group), a single infusion followed for 8 hours, with no measurement of NAD+ inside the cells and no clinical outcome. Limitation: Only 6 people received NAD+, with no randomisation, and the data were extracted retrospectively from records. All authors were employees of the chain that sold the infusions (Restore Hyperwellness). The dose was 500 mg on 4 consecutive days, double Synerva's 250 mg protocol.

Limitation: A narrative review, with no systematic method. The causal link between falling NAD+ and age-related diseases, and their “reversal”, comes mainly from rodent models. Limitation: A cross-sectional study on pelvic skin from patients operated on for another reason: a single tissue, with no follow-up over time. The abstract shows only a correlation, not a magnitude such as “at 50 compared with 20”. Two authors were directors of the company NADLife.
