IV amino acids have a well-established place in hospital, for patients who cannot eat. In wellness their role is more modest — here is how things stand, without exaggeration.
Medically assessed protocol
Benefits
Essential amino acids
The body cannot produce them on its own; it gets them from food. The drip delivers them directly into the bloodstream.
Recovery after exertion
A protocol chosen during periods of intense training or sustained physical strain, as support, not as a substitute for food.
No digestion needed
The intravenous route bypasses digestion and delivers a known amount, under medical supervision.
45-minute session
Slow administration, for good tolerance, at the clinic or at home, in Bucharest and Ilfov.
Assessment beforehand
The doctor checks kidney and liver function and any metabolic disorders before administration.
Medical administration
Medical staff, sterile materials, coordination by a specialist in anaesthesia and intensive care, and equipment for emergencies.
IV drip or oral supplements — when each one fits
It is not “better or worse” — they have different roles. Here is the difference, stated fairly.
| IV drip | Oral supplements | |
|---|---|---|
| Absorption | Directly into the bloodstream | Variable, through digestion |
| When it fits | A one-off session, with a medical assessment | Daily intake, over the long term |
| Role | A medical procedure, personalised protocol | General support |
An IV drip does not replace a balanced lifestyle or the treatment recommended by your doctor.
Prices
Published prices, no surprises. The medical assessment is included.

What IV amino acids are
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins: from them the body builds its muscles, enzymes, antibodies and many hormones. Of the 20 amino acids that make up proteins, nine are considered essential, because the body cannot produce them on its own: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine.
“IV amino acids” means amino acid solutions prepared for intravenous administration. In hospitals, such solutions have been part of parenteral nutrition for decades — feeding through a vein for patients who cannot eat or cannot absorb nutrients. There, their usefulness is clear and well documented.
At Synerva, in Bucharest, the amino acid IV drip has a different role: an essential amino acid complex, given over about 45 minutes, after a medical assessment, as support during periods of sustained exertion. It is not parenteral nutrition and does not replace meals.

The amino acid IV drip — what it supports and what it does not
Proteins and amino acids have a recognised role in maintaining and building muscle mass and in tissue repair after exertion. That is where the interest in amino acid IV drips comes from among people who train hard or go through physically demanding periods.
To put it honestly: in a healthy person who eats enough protein, there is no evidence that an occasional amino acid IV drip increases muscle mass or noticeably shortens recovery. Muscle mass is built through training and through total protein intake, day after day. The drip can be occasional support, but not a shortcut.
We do not promise results and we do not present the drip as a treatment for loss of muscle mass, for malnutrition or for any medical condition. These situations need a specialist consultation and a nutrition plan, not a wellness session.
Amino acids from food, supplements or a drip
For most people, the best source of amino acids remains food: meat, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes. Supplements — protein powders or branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs: leucine, isoleucine, valine) — are a convenient addition for athletes, and for daily intake they are sufficient. We say so even though we offer the other option.
The drip differs in that it bypasses digestion and delivers a known amount directly into the bloodstream, under medical supervision. It makes sense as an occasional session, not as a substitute for adequate protein intake. The doctor will tell you at the assessment whether it is worthwhile in your case.
How much the amino acid IV drip costs — price in Bucharest
At Synerva, the amino acid IV drip costs 350 RON, with the medical assessment included. The consultation and materials are not charged separately. For this protocol we do not currently have a course at a package price.
If you are looking for support during demanding periods, the Complex B forte protocol (B complex, magnesium, taurine and L-carnitine) costs 650 RON, and the Complex B forte course — four Complex B forte drips — 2190 RON. For rehydration after exertion or heat there is Recovery, with electrolytes, at 350 RON. For home visits, travel is added: 100 RON in Bucharest (free from 600 RON) and 150 RON in Ilfov (free from 900 RON).
How a session works
1. The assessment
The doctor discusses your goal, diet, training and medical history — especially your kidneys, liver and any metabolic disorders. The assessment is included.
2. Placing the cannula
A cannula is placed in your forearm or the back of your hand; you only feel the needle prick.
3. The drip
The solution runs slowly, for about 45 minutes. The slow rate reduces the risk of nausea or a feeling of warmth and is gentler on the vein.
4. After the session
You return to your activities straight away. If you come after a workout, keep hydrating and eat normally afterwards.
Contraindications — who the amino acid IV drip is not recommended for
Amino acid solutions are not given in severe kidney failure, in severe liver failure, in congenital disorders of amino acid metabolism — such as phenylketonuria —, in ammonia build-up in the blood, in metabolic acidosis, or to people with decompensated heart failure or other conditions in which fluid intake must be restricted. Nor are they given in the case of a known allergy to any of the components.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding, milder chronic kidney or liver disease, diabetes and ongoing treatments are discussed at the assessment. The doctor may ask for blood tests beforehand — for example creatinine or transaminases — if your medical history warrants it.
Possible side effects are nausea, a feeling of warmth or facial flushing, especially if the rate of administration is too fast, and local discomfort at the vein. That is why the drip runs slowly, with medical staff present and emergency equipment, under the coordination of a specialist in anaesthesia and intensive care.
Amino acids and other drips — what should not be combined
Not everything can go into the same drip. A concrete example: Cerebrolysin must not be mixed with amino acid solutions — this incompatibility is stated explicitly in its leaflet. If you have been recommended both, they are given separately. The details are in the article on the Cerebrolysin leaflet and administration.
Amino acids can, however, be combined in a plan with other protocols, in separate sessions — for example with the magnesium IV drip or with the Complex B forte protocols. The order and pace are set by the doctor at the assessment.
Who it may make sense for
The amino acid IV drip may be suitable for healthy adults going through a period of sustained physical exertion — intense training, competitions, demanding physical work — who want occasional, medically administered support alongside an adequate diet.
It is not suitable as a meal replacement, for weight loss, for treating unexplained weight loss, or in kidney and liver disease. If you have lost weight without meaning to or have felt weak for a long time, the first step is a consultation. For an overview of the related vitamin protocols, see the vitamin B complex IV drip.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an amino acid IV drip cost in Bucharest?
350 RON at Synerva, with the medical assessment included. For home visits, travel is added: 100 RON in Bucharest and 150 RON in Ilfov.
Can I have the IV drip if my veins are hard to find?
Most of the time, yes — tell us from the start, when you book. It helps a lot to drink water in the hours before and not to arrive cold: in a hydrated, warm body the veins are easier to see and feel. The cannula is usually placed on the forearm or the back of the hand, by medical staff used to finding veins. If it cannot be placed comfortably and safely, we do not keep trying with repeated needle sticks, and we discuss the right option with you.
What does the amino acid IV drip contain?
An essential amino acid complex — the ones the body cannot produce on its own and gets from food. You can ask for the exact composition of the preparation at the assessment.
What are IV amino acids?
Amino acid solutions prepared for intravenous administration. In hospital they are part of parenteral nutrition; at Synerva they are used as occasional support during periods of exertion, after an assessment, not as a substitute for food.
Does it increase muscle mass?
There is no evidence that an occasional amino acid IV drip increases muscle mass in a healthy person who eats enough protein. Muscle mass depends on training and daily protein intake.
How long does the amino acid IV drip take?
About 45 minutes of administration, plus the medical assessment beforehand.
Who should not have an amino acid IV drip?
People with severe kidney or liver failure, congenital disorders of amino acid metabolism (for example phenylketonuria), metabolic acidosis or conditions that require fluid restriction, such as decompensated heart failure. Everything is checked at the assessment.
Does it have side effects?
Nausea, a feeling of warmth or flushing can occur, especially at too fast a rate, as well as discomfort at the vein. That is why the drip runs slowly, under medical supervision.
Can it be given at home?
Yes, in Bucharest and Ilfov, after the same assessment. A nurse comes with the necessary materials.
Can I have the drip straight after a workout?
There is no single rule. Tell us when you book what exertion you have done, and the doctor decides at the assessment. It helps to come hydrated and after a light meal.
