Iron infusion — 200 mg protocol

English translation of content medically reviewed in Romanian by Dr. Claudiu Ruscu, intensive care physician (anaesthesia & intensive care)· Romanian text reviewed 20 September 2026

A lower-dose iron infusion, given only at the clinic with continuous monitoring (blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pulse and ECG). Given ONLY on the basis of blood tests confirming the deficiency — ferritin, serum iron and full blood count, plus C-reactive protein where relevant — and after a medical assessment. It takes about 1.5 hours, infusion and observation. The effect on anaemia shows at least two weeks after the infusion, not immediately.

Read the medical guide first — when it is indicated, which tests it requires and how long it takes to see an effect.

Given exclusively at the clinic, not at home, and only after a medical assessment. See all prices.

Active ingredients

Iron sucrose — 200 mg iron

The dose is adjusted individually, based on the medical consultation. Every substance is pharmaceutical grade, given intravenously for higher bioavailability.

Iron infusions are given only at the clinic and only on the basis of blood tests confirming the deficiency (ferritin, serum iron, full blood count, plus C-reactive protein where relevant), after a medical assessment. They are not given on request and are not given at home.

The SYNERVA method

STEP 01

Consultation

We assess your health and decide whether this protocol is right for you.

STEP 02

Preparation

You are seated comfortably. The IV cannula is placed and monitoring begins.

STEP 03

Administration

The infusion is given slowly, under medical monitoring, for optimal tolerability.

STEP 04

Monitoring

Afterwards you stay at the clinic for the observation period, under monitoring.

Indications

  • ✓Iron deficiency confirmed by blood tests (ferritin, serum iron, full blood count)
  • ✓Documented digestive intolerance to oral iron
  • ✓Malabsorption syndromes (inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, bariatric surgery)
  • ✓Chronic losses that exceed what the oral route can compensate for
  • ✓The need to correct the deficiency within a defined timeframe, for example before surgery

For most people with iron deficiency, oral supplementation is the first option. The intravenous route is decided at the assessment, on the basis of blood tests.

Contraindications

  • ✕Pregnancy and breastfeeding, unless indicated and supervised by your treating doctor
  • ✕Known hypersensitivity to the product or to the components of the solution
  • ✕Active acute infections
  • ✕Test results that do not support a diagnosis of iron deficiency
  • ✕An uninvestigated source of loss — the cause is investigated, the infusion is not repeated

The full list of contraindications is discussed during the consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Which blood tests are required beforehand?

+

Ferritin, serum iron and a full blood count, plus C-reactive protein when an inflammatory process is suspected. Without them the infusion is not given, because ferritin is an acute-phase reactant and can mask a real deficiency.

Can it be done at home?

+

No. It is given only at the clinic, because intravenous iron can cause hypersensitivity reactions and requires emergency equipment and an observation period after the infusion.

How soon will I see the effect?

+

After at least two weeks. The iron has to be incorporated into newly formed red blood cells, and red blood cell production (erythropoiesis) takes time. This is not a protocol you feel on the day it is given.

What is monitored during the infusion?

+

Blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pulse and ECG, continuously throughout. The patient also stays at the clinic after the infusion has finished.
