An iron infusion for confirmed iron deficiency, given only at the clinic with continuous monitoring (blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pulse and ECG). Given ONLY on the basis of blood tests confirming the deficiency — ferritin, serum iron and full blood count, plus C-reactive protein where relevant — and after a medical assessment. It takes about 2.5 hours, infusion and observation. The effect on anaemia shows at least two weeks after the infusion, not immediately.
Read the medical guide first — when it is indicated, which tests it requires and how long it takes to see an effect.
Given exclusively at the clinic, not at home, and only after a medical assessment. See all prices.

Ferric carboxymaltose — 500 mg iron
The dose is adjusted individually, based on the medical consultation. Every substance is pharmaceutical grade, given intravenously for higher bioavailability.
Iron infusions are given only at the clinic and only on the basis of blood tests confirming the deficiency (ferritin, serum iron, full blood count, plus C-reactive protein where relevant), after a medical assessment. They are not given on request and are not given at home.
We assess your health and decide whether this protocol is right for you.
You are seated comfortably. The IV cannula is placed and monitoring begins.
The infusion is given slowly, under medical monitoring, for optimal tolerability.
Afterwards you stay at the clinic for the observation period, under monitoring.
For most people with iron deficiency, oral supplementation is the first option. The intravenous route is decided at the assessment, on the basis of blood tests.
The full list of contraindications is discussed during the consultation.
Ferritin, serum iron and a full blood count, plus C-reactive protein when an inflammatory process is suspected. Without them the infusion is not given, because ferritin is an acute-phase reactant and can mask a real deficiency.
No. It is given only at the clinic, because intravenous iron can cause hypersensitivity reactions and requires emergency equipment and an observation period after the infusion.
After at least two weeks. The iron has to be incorporated into newly formed red blood cells, and red blood cell production (erythropoiesis) takes time. This is not a protocol you feel on the day it is given.
Blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pulse and ECG, continuously throughout. The patient also stays at the clinic after the infusion has finished.
