Magnesium given intravenously, slowly and diluted. It bypasses intestinal absorption, which limits oral doses. Given after a medical assessment, with attention to kidney function.
Read the medical guide first — when it is indicated, which tests it requires and how long it takes to see an effect.
Given exclusively at the clinic, not at home, and only after a medical assessment. See all prices.

Magnesium sulphate 1500 mg, diluted in the drip
The dose is adjusted individually, based on the medical consultation. Every substance is pharmaceutical grade, given intravenously for higher bioavailability.
Intravenous magnesium is cleared by the kidneys, and an excess (hypermagnesaemia) is an absolute contraindication to giving more. That is why kidney function is checked at the assessment and the drip is given slowly. Contraindicated in kidney failure, Addison's disease and barbiturate poisoning.
We assess your health and decide whether this protocol is right for you.
You are seated comfortably. The IV cannula is placed and monitoring begins.
The infusion is given slowly, under medical monitoring, for optimal tolerability.
Afterwards you stay at the clinic for the observation period, under monitoring.
For everyday intake, oral magnesium is the first option and is enough for most people. Whether the intravenous route is right for you is decided at the assessment.
The full list of contraindications is discussed during the consultation.
Because intravenous magnesium given quickly causes a feeling of warmth, flushing and a drop in blood pressure. The 1500 mg are diluted and run over 40 minutes — the time itself is what keeps the drip comfortable.
Because magnesium is cleared by the kidneys. With normal kidney function an excess is rare, but in kidney failure magnesium builds up, and hypermagnesaemia shows as muscle weakness, low blood pressure, nausea and confusion. That is why it is checked before the drip is given.
For most people, tablets are enough. The limit comes with high doses: absorption from the gut is limited, and the unabsorbed surplus draws water into the bowel, so the laxative effect appears before your stores are topped up.
